Foul trouble hurt the Carson High girls basketball team in a 57-35 loss to Wasilla, Alaska, in the Capital Classic on Wednesday in Juneau, Alaska.
The Senators were tied with Wasilla 7-7 after one quarter, but Wasilla outscored Carson 19-8 in the second quarter and 19-6 in the third quarter to take a 45-21 lead. Rosella Nunez, Sinead McSweeney and Brandi Vega all had three fouls in the first half.
With those players in foul trouble, Carson had trouble handling Wasilla's pressure as it committed 25 turnovers in the first half.
"We didn't handle the pressure very well," Carson assistant coach Ron Tamori said. "They just worked the ball around very well and kind of picked us apart."
McSweeney had seven points and three blocks, Nicole Scott had six points and six blocks and Sarah Evans, Nunez and Vega all added five points for Carson. After a day off today, Carson will resume play on Friday against defending state champion and tournament host Juneau.

Megan Kilty scored 10 points, Amanda Osborne, Sandie Howard and Morgan Nuckols all had eight points and Lailah Mobaligh added six points in the win for the Carson junior varsity girls basketball team at the State Farm Classic.
RENO 52, CARSON FROSH 35
Breanna Anderson scored 13 points and Tiffany O'Day and Belen Munoz each added six points in the loss for the Carson freshmen girls basketball team.
