Frank Sylvia Jr., 81, of Carson City, died Dec. 25, 2005, in Carson City. He was born April 19, 1924, in Providence, R.I., to Francisco and Mary Sylvia.

He worked for the California Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed boating, fishing and carpentry.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Charlotte Petker, and her children Patty, Dan, and Don; son Frankie; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Pam; daughters Teresa Olivas and Deena Reed; brother, Joe; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Capitol City Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
