John Holden Searles

A memorial service for John Holden Searles, 69, a Carson City resident for 25 years, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Searles died Feb. 3, 2005, in Carson City. He was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Evanston, Ill., to William L. and Barbara Holden Searles.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Pittsburgh for more than 20 years.

He graduated from high school in New York and graduated with honors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a mechanical engineer.

As a mechanical engineer, he designed ski lifts all over the world along with other mechanical conveyance systems.

He enjoyed making jewelry, traveling, gourmet cooking and gardening.

He was a member of the Church of Christ Scientists and MENSA Society.

Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law Barbara Holden Searles and Cris Graffa of Lancaster, Penn.; sisters Judy Rizzo of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Pennelope Noel of Perrysville, Ark.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Donations may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientists, Carson City, Building Fund.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
