A Carson City school bus driver received a traffic citation Monday after almost striking a car on College Parkway while carrying students, police said.

Bus driver Barbara Moore, 51, was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign. According to Carson City Deputy Jeff Pullen, Sommer Staikoff, 19, was westbound on College Parkway when Moore began crossing Northridge Lane about 2:10 p.m.

Staikoff was forced to veer away from the bus to avoid a collision, he said.

Staikoff's vehicle jumped a curb, popping both front tires and stopping in the front yard of a home in the 3500 block of Northridge just inches from a fire hydrant. No one was injured.

"She was going to hit me. I had to swerve," she said.

Pullen said Moore "just didn't see the car."

About nine high school students were on the bus when the accident occurred.

"We're very fortunate," said Lisa Staikoff, who rushed to be by her daughter's side after the accident. "I'm so glad no one was hurt."
