WASHOE VALLEY - A man who allegedly shot his son several times during a dispute killed himself late Saturday night, a Washoe County deputy said Monday.

Curtis Cryer, 67, was found dead inside his home about midnight Saturday, according to Deputy Darrin Rice.

Officers were called to the 2200 block of East Lake Boulevard about 6:45 p.m. Saturday on the report of a shooting between father and son. Victim Michael Cryer, 41, made the call from a neighbor's home where he'd escaped after his father allegedly shot him.

"We found the son with multiple gunshot wounds in his chest and elbow," Rice said.

He said it's unclear why the father and son were arguing.

Surrounding homes were evacuated and negotiators attempted several times throughout the evening to speak with Curtis Cryer, but were never successful, Rice said.

About 11:30 p.m. SWAT team members entered the home and found Cryer dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Investigators recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting of Michael Cryer.

Michael Cryer was taken by Care Flight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center where he was treated and released early Sunday morning. Rice did not know the severity of the victim's wounds.

The incident is still under investigation.
