A memorial service for Lee Roy Boggs, 87, of Gardnerville will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Gardnerville.

Mr. Boggs died Dec. 19, 2004, in the veterans hospital in Reno.

He was born Nov. 11, 1917, in Chico, Calif., to John and Bessie Lee Boggs.

In his earlier years, he was a member of the Musicians Union and played drums and several instruments for several large bands. After his discharge from the Marines, he was a teamster for 25 years.

He received his 50-year pin last month from his Masons lodge in Gardnerville. His greatest pleasure was taking care of his Boston terrier, Suzy Q, and the quail.

Mr. Boggs served in the U.S Marines during World War II and was discharged as a sergeant.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Hank of Susanville, Calif., in 1994.

Among his survivors are his wife of 27 years, Mary and her children Patrick Swasey of Alexandria, La., and Karen Swasey of South Lake Tahoe; grandchildren Sarah and Chris Swasey and William Darnell of Augusta, Ga.; and brother, Arthur of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
