A memorial service for Ruby Cecil Adams, 81, a Carson City resident for the past 34 years, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Adams died Jan. 2, 2005, at Washoe Medical Center. She was born March 27, 1923, in Leavenworth, Kan., to Samuel M. and Laura Croskey Cecil. She was raised in Platte City, Mo.

She graduated from Platte City High School in 1941.

She married Billy D. Adams Jan. 26, 1982, in Carson City.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Southern California from 1948 to 1970.

Mrs. Adams owned and operated the Hi Brow Shoppe beauty salon in Torrance, Calif., for nine years.

On Dec. 13, 1982, she was initiated into Esther Chapter 3 Order of Eastern Star in Carson City. She served as past worthy matron from 1989 to 1990 and grand chaplain of Grand Chapter of Eastern Star for the state of Nevada from 1992 to 1993. She traveled the entire state for Eastern Star activities.

Among her survivors are her husband and son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Noel Van Brow, all of Carson City; daughter, Melanie Wilhelm of Dayton; sister, Layle Wheeler of Gladstone, Mo., and grandchildren Julie, Mike and Jenny Wilhelm, Presley, Madison and Lucas Van Brow and Caleb McCoy and J.J. and Joshua Brow.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
