Alfred John Herauf, 90, a Gardnerville resident for the past six years, died Jan. 2, 2005, at home. He was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Milwaukee to Michael and Mary Herauf.

He graduated from high school and flight school in the Marine Corps.

Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived at Serene Lakes at Sugar Bowl, Calif., for 15 years and spent 25 years in the San Francisco Bay area.

Mr. Herauf worked for 60 years in the office trailer-manufacturing industry, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hillsborough, Calif., and the Rotary Club in Gardnerville.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1937 to 1945, achieving the rank of major.

Among his survivors are his son, Donald M. of Alamo, Calif.; grandson, Michael C. Herauf of Belmont, Calif.; and sister, Margaret Schmitt of West Bend, Wis.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
