Short-handed Carson ski splits

Academics comes first at Carson High and as a result the Senators' ski team was short-handed for a rescheduled race on Wednesday.

Carson only had a third of its team - three girls and seven boys - for a slalom race on Wednesday against Hug and Manogue at Mt. Rose. Due to the recent snow storms, the race was rescheduled for Wednesday to accomodate Washoe County Schools.

But Carson students are taking finals this week, so most of the Senator skiers could not make the race due to finals. "Academics always comes before sports," Carson ski coach Jack Reinhardt said.

Carson's boys defeated Hug 90-0 and lost to Manogue 84-67. With only three girls, Carson was able to beat Hug 56-18, but lost to Manogue 88-40.

For the boys against Hug, Caleb McCoy was first (28.5 seconds), J.P. McFarren was second (29.5), Mike Aglietti was third (30.1), Matt Miller was fourth (32.8), Stephen McCurdy was fifth (35.4), Andy Hook was sixth (35.6) and Chris Brown was seventh (54.4).

Against Manogue, McCoy was fourth, McFarren was fifth, Aglietti was sixth, Miller was 10th, McCurdy was 13th and Hook was 14th.

For Carson's girls against Hug, Kacey Potter was first (31.8), Meagan Carter was second (36.2) and Elizabeth Peebles was fourth. Against Manogue, Potter was fourth, Carter was eighth and Peebles was 11th.
