Carson City

Kids Club looking for new students

If you looking for a good environment for your preschooler to learn basic academic skills and how to play with others, Carson City Recreation Division has a great preschool program.

Kids Klub is a licensed preschool with a certified teacher for 3- to 5-year-old children. Mara Anderson has a bachelor's degree in early-childhood education with a minor in elementary education. The curriculum offers kindergarten readiness and developmental skills with language, art, math, science, music and dramatic play daily.

Medical records and immunizations are required prior to beginning classes. There are openings in the Tuesday/Thursday morning class for younger children (3-4 years old) at a cost of $64 per month. Register at the recreation office in the Carson City Community Center, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays A $5 nonrefundable registration fee is due at the time of registration. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Japanese woodblock prints on exhibit

The Japanese woodblock prints of artist Carol Brown will be on display for this month at Westside Ink - Books, Art, Pie, 710 N. Curry St., 885-9777.

A showing for Brown will be from 4-7 p.m. Saturday. Refreshments will be provided.

Historical calendar wins Gold Award

The 2005 Nevada Magazine Historical Calendar has won a Gold Award in this year's National Calendar Awards from the Calendar Marketing Association, a national calendar trade group.

Nevada Magazine's Historical Calendar, published annually for more than two decades, spotlights exceptional historic photographs culled from museum and private photo collections throughout the state.

The Calendar Marketing Association honored Nevada Magazine with a Gold Award in the Best Nonprofit Retail category.

"We're extremely honored to have been recognized for our historical calendar by such a prestigious national organization," said Richard Moreno, Nevada Magazine's publisher.

"This year's calendar was particularly exceptional because of the high quality of the historic photos and its pleasing, clean design."

Seniors' monthly dance is Saturday

The Carson Senior Center's monthly senior dance, "Jump&Jive" will be from 7-10 p.m. Saturday. Free dance lessons by Thane Cornell will be offered from 6-7 p.m. Sierra Swing Band will provide the music. Cost is $6.

There will be a no-host wine bar, and refreshments will be served. For information, call 883-0703.

30-year reunion for CHS class Aug. 12-13

Carson High School Class of 1975 will hold a reunion Aug. 12-13.

A dinner-dance is Saturday with a Mardi Gras-style theme.

Adoption day for dogs in Silver Springs

The Silver Springs Spay-Neuter Project is hosting dog adoptions from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The Champions Real Estate and Manufactured Housing in Silver Springs, intersection of Highway 95A and Highway 50, next to Piper's Casino.

Volunteers will be needed to help with upcoming adoption events. Call 577-3518 for information.

Washoe Valley

Birding trip set for Davis Creek Park

Lahontan Audubon Society is sponsoring a free birding trip to Davis Creek Park at the north end of Washoe Valley on Saturday.

During this half-day trip, the group will walk along park trails. This is an excellent area to observe local forest birds: nuthatches, bushtits, woodpeckers, sapsuckers, chickadees and more.

Bring a snack and water. Birders of all experience levels are welcome.

Meet in the group picnic area at the far end of the parking lot at 8:30 sharp.
