'Lots and lots' of Eastern brookies at Tamarack Lake near Blue Lakes

BISHOP, CALIF. AREA: Gary Olson of the Bishop Creek Resorts (760-873-4484):

North Lake: Has been great with Stingers or Trout traps with a mealworm.

Intake No. 2: Salmon eggs or Power Bait seemed to work real well. Gold Kastmaster lures from shore and some action with Panther/Martin lures. A 3-pound rainbow on Salmon eggs.

South Lake: Fishing has been awesome with nightcrawlers and Power Bait.

Weir Pond: Has been great with black Gnats, olive Woolly Bugger or Matuka flies.

Bishop Creek: A 2-pound, 9-ounce rainbow on nightcrawlers.

Backcountry: Fishing at Long Lake is pretty good with Panther/Martin lures o a nightcrawler.

BISHOP, CALIF. AREA: Patti Apted of the Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425):

Sabrina Lake: The permit to stock from a private hatchery came through this past week, so Alpers were delivered on Friday and so far no one has caught one yet as far as we know. The weight range of the fish is between 4 to 6 pounds.

The later part of the week, fishing heated up as did the weather. We had trollers using red throat olive Matukas, flashers, worms and Thomas Buoyant, all did well. The inlets produced limits of fish on Power Bait, eggs and worms.

Fishing around the rock piles and criss-crossing the back natural lake also produce many limits.

DF&G stocked the lake Thursday with pan-size fish and a few fish tipping the scales at 2-pounds.

BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) reported, "Lots of mosquitoes!

Lower Blue Lake: The shore fishermen did well. There was good action with nightcrawlers on the bottom. One angler limited out on two consecutive days (nothing big)."

Tamarack Lake: A troller got "lots and lots" of Eastern brookies with nightcrawlers. He caught and released over in 4 hours.

Lower Sunset Lake: Was slow for boaters.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Rick Giser of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707): "It is doing real well, Some boats are trolling, most are still fishing, some are fishing with Midge flies.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jeffry Wenger of the Bridgeport Reservoir RV Park and Marina (888-377-1677) reported: As of July 10, record water levels and many big fish are the story here.

Saying that the fishing continues to be very productive is almost an understatement.

Still fishing using crawlers or Powe Bait (green or rainbow), is the way to go in Buckeye Bay, Rainbow Point or off the marina.

We are seeing lots of stringers with the average fish between 13 and 20 inches.

The Narrows by the dam are also sure bet.

For the trolling guys, try a floating Rapala along the West shore late in the evening.

Fly fishing is on! Try an indicator technique with Midges (size 18 or 20 )at the bay. Mini- Leeches or Damsel patterns with a medium sink in 4-7 feet of water will also produce.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Randy Picton reported: The fishing at Bridgeport couldn't be better for bait guys, fly guys, or whatever you want to throw at 'em.

Trolling is rather iffy as there is a lot of meadow grasses coming down the river and creeks that tend to foul-up a lure pretty quick.

Three different anglers on Friday brought in three different rainbows from 5.15 to 5.5 pounds.

The biggest brownie in the last three weeks came in Saturday at 4.4 pounds.

Lots of limits and most fish average 2 pounds.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported three fishermen trolling nightcrawlers caught and released over 30 fish (nothing big). Other trollers did not do as well. Shore fishing was spotty.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:

East Carson River: Brad Davis at the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): "Not much fishing, but lots of bicycles. I'm on the Board of Directors for the Death Ride and I was busy all day on Saturday, away from the store.

The State planted last Friday and there were fish everywhere.

One guy and his wife caught and released 14 fish in one hole.

The County is supposed to plant some larger fish this week."

West Carson River: Dave Kirby reported good fishing all weekend, but nothing big. Some limits wit nightcrawlers or Salmon eggs.

West Carson River: Girish Pandif of the Nevada Appeal reported he and his son limited out in one hour, last Saturday morning.

Silver Creek: Don Reasons and Dr. Rex Baggett of Carson City limited out on rainbows (8-13 inches) last Friday. They reported that the stream is still high and fast.

CRATER LAKE, CALIF. (Near Kit Carson Pass): Dave Kirby said that one angler reported catching and releasing "as many Brookies as he wanted" on small lures.

FEATHER RIVER AT ORVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported: Water is at 2,700 CFS. Catching a few nice King Salmon. Low water flows have made fishing tougher. Using gold Flatfish lures and bouncing roe.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that it was very quiet last weekend, due to the Death Ride.

KINNEY RESERVOIR, CALIF: Brad Davis reported that the reservoir is so full that it is almost up to the highway.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy Swain at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): "Our saga of family troubles continues. My son had oral surgery last week and we had to rush him back, two days later, due to some serious swelling.

The fishing out here is going crazy, crazy, crazy.

One guy had a stringer of Wiper Bass, up to 2.5 pounds and a Walleye that weighed 4.5 pounds.

Three young kids (Gabrielle, Izzy and Madison) from Las Vegas caught a 10-pound Walleye from a boat.

The Walleye are going crazy, the average size is about 5-6 pounds. They are mostly being caught on minnows.

I believe that there has to be a Walleye out there that is 20 pounds."

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Norm Budden caught an 11-pound (32 inch) Walleye on July 1 while trolling with Bob "Slick" McCulloch, both of Carson City. McCulloch got skunked.

RED LAKE CALIF: No report. Lots of float tubes at far end, last Friday.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) reported:

Redding to Anderson: Water flows at 14,000 CFS, perfect for drifting.

Fly fishing for rainbow trout is fantastic.

Catching and releasing many nice rainbows, 2-6 pounds.

Using No. 14 or No. 16 Pheasant tail flies.

Micro May Fly patterns were working well.

Spin fishing is good with Glo Bugs and Crickets for trout and Shad.

Great bug hatch now.

Opening day of the King Salmon fishing season will be July 16 from Red Bluff and below.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported catching nice King Salmon (2-6 pounds) and large rainbows. Fishing is excellent. 80-100 feet deep, trolling with Shad pattern lures. Fishing the Digger Bay area. Fishing is heating up on the lake.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462): "I didn't go out yesterday (Monday), I was busy doing paper work all day. The fishing has been very good on every trip. We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We're catching lots of nice fish, up to about 10 pounds, but nothing super big.

I am trolling the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "Agate Bay, Cal Neva Point and Dollar Point have been good to excellent, early in the morning.

We are trolling for Macks with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at depths of 130-300 feet, along the edges of the drop-offs.

Last week, I had Chuck Van Hise of Carson City and his brother-in-law from Florida. They limited out with Mack up to about 8 pounds.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to very good.

Best places have been Ski Run Mound and Camp Richardson.

We are trolling 150-250 feet deep with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows."

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to very good.

We are trolling silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at a depth of 150-250 feet.

Working the Cave Rock Shelf for Macks. Most are 1-4 pounds."

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported, "Not much fishing going on due to all of the jet skis and water skiers. There have been some limits caught at the inlet at the south end of the lake by boats stillfishing with nightcrawlers or Power Bait. They are picking up one, now and then, from shore. There is nothing going on for the trollers."

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071) (Ask for the boat house): A 4-pound, 8-ounce rainbow on Velveeta Cheese for Brian Campbell of Reno and a 4-pound rainbow on a nightcrawler for Dee Dee Corlex of Huntington Beach, Calif.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: Carolyn Webb of the Virginia Lakes Resort reported, "This has been one of the best weeks of the summer to date.

Great weather, great fishing, and even better catching.

Power Bait (Salmon Peach) has taken the prize for the most fish.

A little 3 year old boy caught two fish over 2 pounds on a worm.

A total of 35 fish in the 3-pound range were taken on lures, worms and salmon eggs, not to mention the myriads of tubers hitting the waters.

The newest design in Thomas Buoyant lures is the scored red/gold, and it's a killer.

Power Nuggets have also been working great in chartreuse.

All three lakes are getting weekly stocks with more poundage than last year, with brooders in each of the last 3 stocks.

Dry flies have been a lot of fun with Gray Hackle Peacock, Adams female, and Griffith's Gnat in size 16 and 14."

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Rick Giser reported:

East Walker: The flow is 620 CFS. The fly fishermen are hooking fish with Caddis flies but the fish are hard to land due to the fast current.

West Walker: It is flowing at 1,250 CFS today (Tuesday). It is blown out!

Little Walker: High and fast.

WINNEMUCCA LAKE, CALIF: Some ice remaining on the far side of the lake. Lots of snow and lots of mosquitoes. No fishermen.
