Carson American 11s fall against Washoe

The Carson American 11-year-old all-stars were eliminated from the district Little League Tournament in an 11-5 loss to Washoe in the quarterfinals on Friday at Sparks' Shadow Mountain.


Carson American led 4-2 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, but Washoe scored four runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth. Carson took a 1-0 lead in the first when Joe Zinda doubled and scored on Ben Drozdoff's single.


In the third, Zinda and Tommy Champion walked and both scored on Colin McCulloch's two-run double to give Carson a 3-1 lead. After Tim Baylor doubled and Stephen Anderson was hit by a pitch, Zinda walked to force in a run to make it 4-2 in the fourth.


Washoe used two errors to take a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth. A bases clearing double and two runs that scored on fielder's choices gave Washoe an 11-5 lead in the fifth.


Champion walked and stole home to finish the scoring in the sixth. Baylor pitched a complete game for Carson.


Through five games in the tournament, Baylor hit .600 with three runs and four RBI, Drozdoff hit .600 with four runs and three RBI, Zinda hit .538 with four runs and six RBI, Zach White hit .400 with three runs and two RBI, McCulloch hit .357 with four runs and six RBI, Cole Dufresne hit .333 with two runs and four RBI, Connor Fallon hit .333 with a run and two RBI, Anderson, Jeremy Froland and Champion all scored two runs and Dion Copulos and Ty Bibee each had an RBI. Baylor, Dufresne, McCulloch, White and Drozdoff all pitched well in the tournament.
