A funeral for Robert S. Coleman, 26, a lifetime Carson City resident, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Walton's.

Mr. Coleman died July 17, 2005, in Carson City. He was born Jan. 2, 1979, in Reno, to Christian Joseph and Sue Coleman.

He was the "poster child" for muscular dystrophy at age 4. He enjoyed playing chess and won first place in 1999 in the Western States Chess Championship in Reno. He won many trophies for chess competitions. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the U.S. Chess Federation.

He was an artist, a poet and an avid sports fan who had extensive knowledge of sports and players. He was a Southern Baptist.

Among his survivors are his friend, Josh Marriott; grandfather, Robert Alexander Coleman of Douglas County; parents of Carson City; sisters and brothers-in-law Camella J. and Scott Johnson of Sacramento and Cynthia L. and Chris Kannan of Gardnerville; niece Tera Kannan; and nephew Christian Kannan.

Burial will be at the Stewart Indian Cemetery.
