A celebration of life for Bruce L. Nelson, 76, a Gardnerville resident for the past 15 years, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the family home.

Mr. Nelson died June 3, 2005, in Gardnerville. He was born Aug. 31, 1928, in Appleton, Wis., to John and Gretchen Nelson.

He attended schools in Appleton then graduated from Woodbury College in Los Angeles. He married Audrey Nelson Feb. 28, 1987, in Genoa.

Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Glendora, Calif.

Mr. Nelson was a fireman with the Los Angeles City Fire Department for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Jeanne Thomas and Patricia Gagnon.

Among his survivors are his wife of Gardnerville; son, Thomas Bruce Nelson of San Gabriel, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Ann and Paul Reese of Gardnerville; stepdaughters Carlene Clark of Indianapolis and Kelsey Bennett of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; brother, Paul C. of Ventura, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
