BISHOP, CALIF. AREA: Patti Apted of the Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425):

Sabrina Lake: A bit of surprise this week: Snow flurries on Wednesday and Thursday, but even with the change in weather, fishing remained about the same as last week. Many anglers coming in for a quick burger couldn't believe the number of fish they caught and released. The Department of Fish and Game stocked the lake Thursday with pan-size fish with quite a few fish tipping the scales at 3 pounds. The run-off filling the lake slowed down, quite a bit, over the last week due to the cooler weather and wind. Super Dupers were the hot ticket this week for those trolling the shoreline around the lake. Salmon eggs were productive around the inlets at the back. Worms and Power Bait, also yielded many limits for the shore anglers. Lots of float tubers dotted the lake waters over the weekend.

BLUE LAKES, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) reported that the road is still closed but they hope to have it open for the Fourth of July. It is currently closed at Charity Valley.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Rick Giser of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707): "Doing pretty good from boats but tough from shore. They are picking up the trout, while trolling. The fish are running 1-2 pounds, with the largest last week being about 5 pounds.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that on June 6, Brad Stribling of Galt, Calif, caught a 16-pound Mackinaw on a nightcrawler, while fishing with his dad from the big dam. It took him 45 minutes to land the Mack.

Doug Busey of Douglas County reported that on Tuesday, there was an 18-pound (33 inches) Mackinaw caught on a Rapala lure from shore.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:

East Carson River: The river is high, but clearing up.

West Carson River: Still running high and lots of fishermen on Free Fishing Day.

CATNIP RESERVOIR, NEV: The 2005 season will open on Sept. 1.

FEATHER RIVER AT ORVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported: Water is at 3,500 CFS. Catching nice King Salmon. Some limits. Using gold Flatfish lures and bouncing roe.

FT. CHURCHILL COOLING PONDS, NEV: Elmer Bull of NDOW reported that one angler caught 21 bass (10-21 inches) in 2.5 hours with plastic worms.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): It was a good weekend for trout fishing. Trollers using florescent red lures and nightcrawlers did well.

HEENAN LAKE, CALIF: Opens on the Friday before Labor Day each year (Sept. 2, 2005).

HINKSON SLOUGH, NEV: Elmer Bull reported that the fishing pressure is pretty spotty. Not a lot of fishermen on Free Fishing Day. The water looks good and fish are jumping all over the place.

HOBART RESERVOIR, NEV: All access by way of Ash Canyon is restricted due to logging work on-going in that area.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that there were about 80 youngster entered in the Kids' Fishing derby. One of the derby highlights was a 5.5 year old boy catching a 5.5 pound rainbow. Garrett Damico and his dad of Carson City caught a limit of rainbows mostly on worms. Dan McGlothin of Merced and his daughter Bri caught a 6.75 pound rainbow on orange Power Bait.

KIRMAN (AKA CARMEN) LAKE, CALIF: Rick Giser reported it has been OK but nothing exceptional. The fly fishermen are getting about 2-3 fish per person.

Note: This lake is about a 2 mile hike from the Sonora Pass Highway (S. R. 108).

KNOTT CREEK RESERVOIR, NEV: The 2005 season opened on June 11.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: MIssy Swain at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750) reported: "Nothing exciting to report as far as fishing. The reservoir is at 26,000 acre feet of water. If you come out here, bring your bug spray. The bugs are fierce. Last week, my husband crushed a finger on his left hand and broke his leg. This week, my youngest son had two teeth broken by a baseball and my other son was hit in the kneecap with a baseball. Geez, it never rains but it pours, around here.

MASON VALLEY WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA, NEV: Elmer Bull reported that there were a few bass caught over the weekend at Bass Pond. Lots of weeds in the pond.

NORTH POND, NEV: Elmer Bull reported that it is very slow. Nothing going on.

ONION VALLEY RESERVOIR, NEV: The 2005 season opened on June 11.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Doug Ouellette of the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks at 358-6113: Not a lot going on. The Cutthroat are starting to go after the Chub, right now. The Northwest side is best right now, with Chub patterns.

RED LAKE CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that Mark Smith of Gardnerville caught a 6.25 pound Cutthroat trout in the creek on a green Panther Martin Lure. Fly fishermen said that they were catching 6-8 trout per angler from shore at the lake with Woolly Bugger flies or Muddler Minnows.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) reported:

Redding to Anderson: Water flows at 11,900 CFS.

Fly fishing for rainbow trout is great.

Catching and releasing many rainbows, 2-6 pounds.

Using No. 14 or No. 16 Pheasant tail flies.

Micro May Fly patterns were working well.

Great bug hatch now.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported catching nice King Salmon (2-4 pounds). Fishing is good. 80-100 feet deep, trolling with Shad pattern lures. Fishing the Digger Bay area.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "The fishing has been good. We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and tagging and releasing the smaller ones. We're catching nice fish but nothing super big.

I am trolling the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "Agate Bay, Cal Neva Point and Dollar Point have been good to excellent, early in the morning.

We are trolling for Macks with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at depths of 130-300 feet, along the edges of the drop-offs.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to very good.

Best places have been Ski Run Mound and Camp Richardson.

We are trolling 150-250 feet deep with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows."

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to very good.

We are trolling silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at a depth of 150-250 feet.

Working the Cave Rock Shelf for Macks. Most are 1-4 pounds."

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported, "Beautiful weather but quiet this morning (Monday). The boaters did OK over the weekend, trolling the deeper water in the middle of the lake, early in the morning (8-11 a.m.). They were catching some limits, about 15 feet deep with silver flasher blades and worms. Shore fishing is sort of slow, no reports of any limits, with the southwest side being the best, right now. The lake level came up about 6 inches last night, and it is maxed."

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071) (Ask for the boat house) reported: A 4-pound, 15-ounce rainbow on a green and silver Kastmaster lure, a 4-pound, 13-ounce rainbow on a green Woolly Bugger fly and a 3-pound, 3-ounce rainbow on a brown Woolly Bugger fly.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: Carolyn Webb of the Virginia Lakes Resort reported, "Big Virginia will be ice free in about 4 or 5 days. There is plenty of fishable water and trout are being caught along the shore on worms, lures and Power Bait. Little Virginia is nothing less than fantastic. It was stocked the first time for this season this past week with Alpers trout and DFG put in over 2000 fish with 50 brooders. Gold prism Super Duper lures, red/gold Thomas Buoyant lures and rainbow pattern Kastmaster lures have been doing the job. Flies are also doing well, Scuds, and Woolly Buggers in dark olive, black and dark brown. Trumbull is also ice free, but not too many people have gone over the snow to see if there is any action."

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Rick Giser reported:

East Walker: They dropped the flow on Saturday to 324 CFS and it was a banner weekend for the fishermen. The fly fishermen did exceptionally well with lots of fish over 20 inches, caught on Caddis-type Nymphs.

West Walker: It is about 1,000 CFS, and still high and muddy. Some fishermen are fishing the little pockets, here and there.

Little Walker: High and muddy.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Mike at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "The fishing is pretty darn good. We are still a little cold, up here. It got down to 26, night before last (Sunday). Dennis is getting better and better every day. On the Fourth, we are going to have barbecued chicken, ribs and hot dogs with potato salad, plus horse shoes and skeet shooting. Come on up, and have some fun."
