Some things are meant to just hang around. In this case, it's the artwork of 14 artists from Carson City to Santa Fe, N.M., on display in the halls of the Legislative Building.

Assembly Sergeant at Arms Terry Sullivan said artwork from the artists ranges from oils to photographs. And he wants more. Sullivan said anyone interested in joining the ongoing exhibit can call him.

Carson City artist Anna Louise Darden said she has a variety of pieces on display.

"The first thing I like to do is animals. I have a red ibus, an extinct pheasant from the United Kingdom called a gragopan, an ocelot. I have some Nevada sort of scenes, a ranch and barn with a mare and a colt and a scene from Genoa with the mountains and a pasture, some Peruvian pictures - colorful pictures of people going to market."

Darden, who has worked in art for 20 years, said she mostly works in soft pastels and colored pencil. She has lived in Carson City for nearly 30 years.

"My husband would see me drawing things and encouraged me to take lessons. I had two teachers. I was taught by Kathy Hammill in Carson City and Judy Allen from Yerington."

Minden artist Nancy Clarke has several oil landscapes of the Old Mammoth Corral, Bodie, Carson Valley Barns and a barn near Hornitos, Calif.

Sullivan has been Assembly sergeant at arms for seven sessions. He and his staff provide service to lawmakers and help keep order during floor sessions.

The artwork will be on display through mid-June in the Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St. It is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call Sullivan at 684-8523 if you would like to add your work to the exhibit.
