A Carson City deputy was recovering at home from minor injuries suffered this weekend when his patrol vehicle was rammed by an alleged drunken driver.

Deputy Glenn Fair was treated at Carson-Tahoe Hospital on Saturday following the 4 p.m. slow-speed pursuit of suspected drunk driver Octavio Acosta-Ruiz, 27.

According to the arrest report, Fair first spotted Acosta-Ruiz shortly before 4 p.m. He followed with sirens blaring for a few blocks before Deputy Josh Stagliano joined the pursuit to College Parkway, where the driver stopped at a red light. When the light changed to green, the driver turned west onto College Parkway.

The two patrol vehicles, driving 35 mph, followed Acosta-Ruiz until he turned onto Cinnabar Avenue. Fair also turned onto Cinnabar and stopped his patrol car.

"The suspect vehicle made an aggressive right turn, barely missing (a) parked vehicle, and drove into Deputy Fair's patrol vehicle," Stagliano reported.

Acosta-Ruiz was taken into custody. Fair was taken by ambulance for evaluation at the hospital.

Ruiz remains in custody at the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony second-offense drunken driving causing injury, providing false identification to avoid prosecution, eluding police, misdemeanor failure to maintain lane, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, reckless driving with injury, driving on a revoked license and a warrant for failure to appear on a DUI. His bail was set at $45,000.
