A funeral Mass for Francis "Frank" Matheus, 92, a lifetime Mason Valley resident, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 37 N. West St., in Yerington.

A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Mr. Matheus died March 28, 2005, at the South Lyon Medical Center. He was born on the Matheus Ranch in Mason Valley Jan. 1, 1913, to Joseph and Maria Gomes Matheus.

He attended the Creamery School in Yerington and graduated from Yerington High School. While in high school, he played football and track and won medals at state track meets. He also attended the University of Nevada, Reno.

He married Phyllis Stallard July 2, 1935.

He only left the Mason Valley during World War II, when he worked in Hawthorne at the Naval Ammunition Depot.

Mr. Matheus ran a blacksmith shop from 1949 to 1962, a trade he learned from his father. In 1962, he went to work for the city of Yerington as the city engineer. He also served as a city councilman and was active in many clubs and organizations, including Woodman of America, U.P.E.C. and Fraternal Order of Eagles, of which he was a past state president.

He was preceded in death by sons Francis Jr., David and Daniel.

Among his survivors are his wife of nearly 70 years of Yerington; daughters Marian Pinkerton of Yerington and Janet Matheus of Ogden, Utah; sons Delbert of Yerington and James of Battle Mountain; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery.
