Nevadans will have to wait a little longer to learn what image will grace the state quarter.
The Nevada State Treasurer's Office set May 30 as the deadline to vote on one of five designs, and the winner was scheduled to be determined and announced Tuesday.
A flood of mail-in votes from over the holiday weekend and a preoccupation with finance-related laws running up against deadlines in the state Legislature conspired to delay the announcement, said Nevada Treasurer Chief of Staff Kathy Besser.
The count had been finished by the end of Tuesday; however, Besser said it could be Thursday morning before the much-anticipated announcement because State Treasurer Brian Krolicki may be needed at the Legislature.
"It depends on the legislative calendar," Besser said.
The five final designs for Nevada's quarter each involve imagery depicting the state's resources and its history.
One is a depiction of wild horses backed by the sun peaking over mountains. Another includes images of ancient Indian artifacts discovered in Nevada. A third is the head of a bighorn sheep and the last two are reminders of Nevada's mining heritage. One is an image of a miner holding a pickax and the other is two picks fronted by a "Silver State" banner.
