Gerhard 'Jerry' Widera

Gerhard "Jerry" Widera, 74, a Carson City resident for the past 38 years, died Nov. 2, 2005, in Carson City.

He was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Boyton, Germany, to Wilhelm and Hildegarde Steinfus Widera.

He graduated from high school and attended two years at the University of California, Berkeley.

He married Sandra Reeks on June 19, 1954, in Reno.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Oakland, Calif., from 1949 to1967.

Mr. Widera was a welder and fabricator. He was an active member of AA for 22 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; daughters and sons-in-law Debra Widera and Jeff Holland of Cold Springs, Michele Widera and Michael Noe of Salt Lake City and Heidi and Johnathan Clymer of Sparks; brother, Wolfgang Guenther Widera of Aptos, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washoe County SPCA.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
