Carson City

20th annual Carson City Toy Ride

Bring a new unwrapped toy to donate for the 20th anniversary of the Carson City Toy Ride. Carson City Sheriff's Department and the Warren Engine Company bringing Santa Claus will lead a parade of motorcycles through town.

Ride begins at noon at the McDonald's at, 3344 N. Carson St. Sign ups are from 9-11:30 a.m. Pins are available for the first 150 participants. Cost is $15 per person or $25 for a couple. A turkey dinner will be served. Call 322-2495.

Computer class at senior center begins Monday

The next basic "Introduction to Computer" session will start Monday at the Carson City Senior Center. Classes are 9-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The class fee is $40 and must be paid at time of registration in the business office. All reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Red's again offers benefit to guests

Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City will once again be hosting its Hand in Hand fundraiser during the month of November.

During this third annual event, each time someone dines at Reds, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of the total meal cost to the diner's nonprofit organization of choice. There is no cost or obligation to the diner. During last year's Hand in Hand fundraiser, Red's successfully helped 49 local nonprofit groups, raising $9,600.

Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF), the "winner" of last year's Hand in Hand campaign, earned approximately $2,400.

Other partners in the enterprise include Carson City Economic Development/Redevelopment, The Nevada Appeal, The Next Media Radio Group and MacWest Marketing. Call 887-0395.

'What Up' report at Wednesday lecture

Nevada Neighbors, Capital City Arts Initiative's lecture series on contemporary art practice, presents "What Up? - Artistic and Curatorial Practice in Northern Nevada (a field report)," a presentation by Sara Gray and Kris Vagner.

The discussion will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Library. An informal reception at the library immediately precedes their talk beginning at 6:15 p.m.

Ski instructors needed for Sundays

The Carson City Recreation Division is looking for volunteer ski and snowboard instructors for the 2006 Junior Ski and Snowboarding program. Volunteers must be 18 years or older and must commit to teaching for six Sundays from 9 a.m.-noon, beginning in January.

Lift tickets for afternoon skiing or snowboarding will be provided.

Meeting followed by theater auditions

The Carson Valley Community Theater will hold its quarterly membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Pizza Barn in the Gardnerville Ranchos, 811 Short Court.

All members and persons interested in the promotion of community theater are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be followed by auditions for "Santa's Little Helper," a holiday melodrama.
