A memorial service for Boyd Elbert Moffitt, 88, a Yerington resident for the past 51 years, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Copper Hills Bible Church, 3 Falcon Way, Yerington, with Pastor Gregg Davies officiating. A gathering will follow the service at the church.

Mr. Moffitt died Nov. 11, 2005, at the South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington. He was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Hammonton, Calif., to Perry and Mayme Taylor Moffitt.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In his early years, Mr. Moffitt worked as a cowboy. In 1954, he moved to Yerington and began work as a crusher operator for Anaconda. He retired in 1978 after nearly 25 years at the mine.

Among his survivors are children Lance Moffitt of Yerington and Janice Porter-Moffitt and Tommy G. Moffitt, both of Reno; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
