A Carson City man succumbed to injuries sustained in a Highway 50 accident last week, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said Monday.

Arche Cook, believed to be in his late 80s, died Friday night at 8:56 p.m. at Washoe Medical Center, said Trooper Rich Bailey.

Cook was the passenger in a 1977 Ford Thunderbird driven by his wife, Patricia Cook, 84.

According to Bailey, Patricia Cook was attempting to turn into Prestige Auto Wash at 1727 Highway 50 E. when she crossed into the path of a BMW driven by Carly Elkins, 17, about 11:45 p.m.

The collision sent the BMW into a truck in the car wash's parking lot.

Both Cooks were taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center. Patricia Cook remains in the intensive care unit, Bailey said.

Elkins and passenger Kevin Liston, 15, were taken by ambulance to Carson-Tahoe Hospital, where they were treated and released.
