As scary as this may sound, the undefeated Carson High girls soccer team appears to be improving coming into the homestretch of the season.

Brandi Vega had two goals and three assists while Rebecca Kane scored two goals as the Senators dominated on their way to a 9-0 Sierra League triumph at home against North Valleys on Saturday afternoon. The win was Carson's 14th straight this season and the shutout was its seventh in eight games.

Improving? The Senators had to rally from a 1-0 deficit before winning 4-1 at North Valleys on Sept. 20. Saturday's score wasn't a case of the Panthers being winless (0-9-1 in league) as much as the Senators playing well, according to coach Randy Roser.

"We played that well," Roser said. "You always want everybody peaking the last few games coming into zone and it looks like that's what we're doing now. We keep expecting these games to be getting tighter, but the kids keep surprising us, as a coaching staff, with the way they keep playing better and better."

It didn't even take 10 minutes for the Senators to put three goals on the scoreboard. Kasey Cano began the scoring parade with a goal in the third minute, assisted by Vega. Five minutes later, Vega scored off an assist from Cassie Bowman. And Danielle Benamati scored off an assist from Vega to make it 3-0 in the ninth minute.

"We passed incredibly," Roser said. "Two of our first three goals were the result of building from the back, getting good crosses and then quality finishes. It was just like we draw it up on the chalkboard."

Vega scored again in the 22nd minute, assisted by Carli Smith. Then Cane scored in the 29th minute, assisted by Smith, and followed up with her second goal, this time assisted by Kayla Sanchez in the 33rd minute to make it 6-0.

Sanchez extended the lead with a goal assisted by Cano in the 45th minute. Samantha Valerius scored on a corner kick in the 56th minute and Bowman scored one minute later off an assist from Vega to give Carson a 9-0 advantage.

JUNIOR VARSITY

Katarina Von Rumpf scored two goals, the second coming in the 74th minute to break a 1-1 tie as Carson posted a 2-1 victory against North Valleys.

Von Rumpf scored in the 17th minute, assisted by Helaine Berris, to give Carson an early lead before North Valleys tied the score late in the first half. Later, Von Rumpf emerged with the ball from a scramble in front of the net and put in her go-ahead score.
