Galena High's Julie Burgarello made history on Saturday when she became the first player in Northern Nevada to win three state girls singles titles at the NIAA 4A State Championships at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.

Burgarello, a senior, beat The Meadows' Veronica Kawka 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals and then defeated Liberty's Julie Baltas 6-4, 6-3 for the title.

The only other Northern Nevada players in action on Saturday in singles or doubles was the girls doubles team of Reno High's Ashley Ernst and Naomi Garcia. They lost in the semifinals to Bishop Gorman's Jillian and Lauren Davis 1-6, 6-3, 3-6, but came back to beat Gorman's Allison Vitangelli and Jacquiline Tang 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 (7-3) for third.
