'Family' at Dayton Parkview separates after building sale

To the staff who worked there and the elderly who lived there, the Dayton Parkview Adult Residence was more than just a facility for the elderly to spend their later years.

They were a family, according to Kathy Richardson, who has been office manager at the facility for the past 11 years.

That family is being separated with the sale of the property at 3 Flowery Ave. in Dayton. The property, consisting of 71Ú2 acres of land and a building with 51 living units, is owned by Daniel C. Fry of Zephyr Cove, according to the Lyon County Assessor's office. Fry could not be reached for comment.

Richardson said both residents and staff were very upset at the turn of events

"We're very sad," she said. "We figured our place was not a facility, we were all a family. There were a lot of tears going around."

Owner Nancy Roebuck has operated the assisted-living residence for 18 years, and Richardson said she expects Roebuck will retire.

"I'll have to find another job," Richardson said.

Staff and residents got the news of the sale about two months ago, Richardson said, but she was unaware who the buyer is.

"It's our understanding the building is going to be bulldozed," she said.

Richardson said most residents have already been placed in other facilities, and the two who are remaining will have other homes by Friday.

"Our hearts just go out to all the residents," Richardson said. "Some have been here as long as 16 years.

Dayton Parkview once had 23 employees, but most are now gone, leaving only Roebuck and Richardson to close the business. An auction of the residences' furnishings and other items will be held Nov. 20.
