The Carson High boys and girls cross country teams used its toughest course they'll run on all year to tune up for a major event this weekend.

Carson hosted a meet on Wednesday at the Western Nevada Community College course, which featured plenty of hills, sand and terrain changes. Douglas, Fallon and North Valleys also competed in the meet. The Senators used the meet as a tuneup for Saturday's Nevada Union Invitational in California.


Carson's girls defeated Douglas 37-45, with North Valleys third at 128. The Senator boys were edged by Douglas 31-35 with North Valleys third at 79.

Carson's Chad Shroy won the boys race in 18 minutes, 16 seconds on the 3.1-mile course. Another highlight came when San Saunders was able to break into Carson's top seven, finishing in 22:18.

The girls event came down to a race between Carson's Christy Works and the Tigers' Whitney Lindsey, with Lindsey eventually winning by 38 seconds and Works taking second. Another highlight for Carson came when Tessa Richards completed her first race on the Senators' toughest course on their schedule.
