Twenty people were cited for providing alcohol to minors following two separate stings in Carson City in August and this month.
According to Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Darrin Sloan, the compliance checks were funded by the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws grant.
On Aug. 30, deputies accompanied by underage volunteers entered 50 businesses and attempted to buy alcohol. Thirty-six places refused sale.
The following businesses were cited for selling to a minor decoy:
Quick Stop at 3006 N. Roop St., Lucky 7 Bar at 1914 N. Carson St., Rite Aid at 1980 N. Carson St., 7-Eleven at 3701 N. Carson St., Ben's Liquor at 444 E. William St., 7-Eleven at 3838 Highway 50, Albertsons at 4348 S. Carson St.
Red's Old 395 at 1055 S. Carson St., Carson Lanes at 4600 Snyder Ave., Capitol City Liquor at 1511 N. Carson St., Fairl's at 3481 Highway 50 East and AM/PM at 4340 N. Carson St., 4190 S. Carson St. and 1017 Carson St.
A total of 31 citations were issued to the businesses.
On Sept. 11, a "shoulder-tap" sting was conducted also using volunteers under 21 years old.
"A shoulder-tap sting involves an underage volunteer asking citizens entering local businesses that sell alcohol to buy alcohol for them with the understanding that the person asking for the alcohol is a minor and unable to buy the alcohol themselves," Sloan said.
A total of six citations were issued to individuals for agreeing to buy alcohol for a minor, and one drunken-driving arrest was made.
Sloan said the Sheriff's Department will be conducting "shoulder-tap" stings throughout the year.
