The next generation of Emeril, Julia Child and Wolfgang Puck are about to emerge thanks to encouragement from the Northern Nevada Dairy Council. Through a grant from the Council to Carson Area Coalition on Obesity, three high schools will participate in a recipe contest utilizing low- and nonfat milk, cheese and yogurt.

Students may team up in pairs of two. However, recipes must be created by the students without adult assistance.

Students should attend Carson, Virginia City or Dayton high schools - alternative high school students allowed - and must submit a statement relating how their recipe gives energy and promotes healthy living, how it promotes three dairy products a day, and how each ingredient adds to the nutritional benefit of the recipe.

All ingredients and portion sizes must be listed in the recipe. Both recipe creators must fill out the application form and sign. All winners will be expected to demonstrate their recipe for their own TV show and share the recipe on the Internet and in newspapers.

All recipes will be judged by a panel of judges from CACO. The final three contestants in each category - milk, cheese and yogurt - at each school will compete by demonstration to a panel of judges. All winners will demonstrate their recipes to the student body. There will be six winners from each school: a ninth-10th grade winner and 11th-12th grade winner in each of the three categories.

Contest rules and entry forms may be picked up from Patrick Beckwith at Virginia City High School, Dave Palmer at Dayton High School and Penny Reynolds at Carson High School. All entries must be turned in at the school to the listed individuals by 2:30 p.m. Oct. 27.
