A memorial service for James Duane Davis, 50, a three-year resident of Alturas, Calif., will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Alturas Baptist Church at 500 W. Fourth St., Alturas.
Mr. Davis died on April 2, 2006, at Mercy Medical Hospital in Redding, Calif. He was born April 2, 1956, in Reno.
He attended the University of Nevada, Reno, and received a bachelor's degree in biology.
He married Leah Louanne Wyatt Davis of Alturas on March 4, 1989, in Carson City.
He was a fisheries research biologist, a legislative lobbyist, a cultural consultant, a water director and ranger, defensive tactics instructor and legal advocate. He also worked in construction and owned and operated a business.
He was fluent in the Paiute language, and had specialized weaponry training and handling skills.
He enjoyed horse, bronc, and bareback riding, skiing, watching rodeo, air racing, carpentry, fishing, cooking, reading, spending time with his pets Kitty and Elvis, and computer technology.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Adeline Davis.
Among his survivors are his wife of Alturas, Calif.; stepson James Paul Preston of Oroville, Calif.; sons Jason and James-Adam Davis, both of Nixon; daughters Marie and Rachel Davis, both of Durant, Okla.; grandmother Emmelina Lowry of Nixon; two uncles, and one great-uncle.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
Burial will take place at Fort Bidwell Cemetery.
Kerr Mortuary in Alturas is in charge of arrangements.
