A memorial service for Walter H. Statton, 73, a 47-year Carson City resident, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Statton died April 10, 2006, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 15, 1932, in Tulsa, Okla., to Harold Statton and Gertrude Froebe.

He married Sylvia Statton on Oct. 20, 1962, in Carson City.

Mr. Statton graduated from Van Nuys High in California and attended college for two years.

He was a communications data system technician for the Carson City Public Works Department.

He served on board the USS Detector mine sweeper in the U.S. Navy.

He was an Employee of the Year in 1988 and 1993 for outstanding performance and dedication to Carson City, and was Citizen of the Year in 1993.

He won an appreciation award for years of dedication in 1974 and 1995.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; son Gary Weese of Washoe Valley; daughter Carolyn Fillman of San Leandro, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Sue Patterson of Colorado, George and April Patterson of Dayton, and Jack and Laurie Patterson of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, two aunts; and one cousin.

Cremation took place at Capitol City Cremation.

Capitol City Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
