American Benefits PPO of Houston and RSA Marketing of Las Vegas have been ordered to stop offering discount health plans in Nevada.

Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman said neither company is registered to sell those plans in the state.

The 2005 Legislature made it illegal for companies that provide discount health care and services to sell those products in the state without registering. Arman said before signing up for those types of insurance products, consumers should check to see if they have proper authorization from the state insurance division. The division's number in Carson City is 687-4270.
