Entertainers sought for 'Noodles' fest

The Cultural and Performing Arts Committee is seeking new members and Silver and Gold Comstock Singers to provide entertainment for the Oodles of Noodles festival on May 13. Call 246-3064.

Lyon County Democrats host Cinco de Mayo fiesta

The Lyon County Democratic Central Committee will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo celebration from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at In Town Park in Fernley.

There will be food, games, piñatas and raffles. The big prize is a four-day cruise to Baja.

Vendors wanted for Lyon County Fly-in

The Lyon County Fly-In and Air Fest, May 20-21 at the Silver Springs Airport, is looking for craft booths and other vendors.

The Fly-In, which has about 5,000 attendees, is offering booths at $100 for crafts and $50 for nonprofit groups. Applications are at www.eventsnevada.com, or call 775-887-1294.

Equestrian group hosts clinics

The Lyon County Horseman's Association will hold Helping Hands' Clinic Ground Work I clinics to be conducted by Tony Sumner at 10 a.m. Saturday and May 13 at 2325 Ramsey Weeks Cutoff, Silver Springs.

The clinics are free to members and $10 for nonmembers. A potluck lunch will be at noon, with attendees bringing a side dish. Certificates will be given out to all who complete the training course.

Virginia City

Chili cookoff, parade features of VC Cinco de Mayo fiesta

Chili will be served all over Virginia City's main street this weekend at the annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Chili Cookoff Saturday and Sunday.

The chili cookoff will be held Saturday, with the International Chili Society contest in the Bucket of Blood parking lot on C and Union streets and a People's Choice chili contest along the boardwalks of C Street.

The two-day fiesta, sponsored by the International Chili Society and the Nevada Commission on Tourism, will also include strolling mariachi musicians on Saturday; piñatas for children next to Piper's Opera House on B Street both days; and a parade at noon Sunday.

Late entries are welcome for the parade, which offers cash prizes for float/vehicles, equestrians, marching and musical units.

Also, the V&T will offer "Fiesta Trains" all weekend long.

'Between Fences' exhibit in Virginia City

The traveling Smithsonian Institution exhibition "Between Fences" will show throughout Virginia City from Saturday through June 14. The Historic Fourth Ward School, the Comstock History Center, the Firemen's Cemetery, Piper's Opera House and others collaborated to bring this exhibition to Northern Nevada. Traditional-arts display on in VC

Celebrating the diversity of Nevada's traditional artists, "The Texture and Weave of the Traditional Art" exhibition will be on display at St. Mary's Art Center, 55 North R St. in Virginia City, Saturday through June 11. The opening reception will be at at 4 p.m. Saturday.
