A Reno man was injured Wednesday morning when his vehicle collided with a dump truck near Lakeview Hill.

Lyndale McDaniel, 49, was southbound on Highway 395 just south of Lakeview Hill when he struck a Nevada Department of Transportation dump truck following a street sweeper at 9:45 a.m.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Blair Harkleroad, the dump truck was directing traffic from the left lane into the right lane when McDaniel came upon the slow-moving vehicle, steered his Hyundai sedan to the right in an attempt to change lanes and struck the right side bumper of the truck.

McDaniel's vehicle then struck the right jersey wall, crossed back across the lanes and struck the street sweeper. His vehicle came to rest blocking both travel lanes. Neither driver of the NDOT vehicles was injured.

Harkleroad said McDaniel, who was not wearing a seatbelt, received serious head injuries and was flown to Washoe Medical Center from the scene. McDaniel was conscious when paramedics arrived.

Traffic was stopped for about 20 minutes while the helicopter landed. Southbound traffic was routed onto the west shoulder around the accident scene for about 90 minutes.
