A funeral Mass for Joseph "Papa Joe" Sfreddo Jr., 77, an 18-year Carson City resident, will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Sfreddo died Aug. 8, 2006, in Carson City.

He was born June 25, 1929, in Van Nuys, Calif., to Joseph Sfreddo and Adele Capelli.

He married Margaret "Peggy" Sullivan on Aug. 27, 1987, in Genoa.

Before moving to Carson City, Mr. Sfreddo lived in Chico, Calif., for several years.

He was a painting contractor for more than 50 years, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He belonged to St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. He was a foster grandparent and volunteer at Empire Elementary School.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; sons and daughters-in-law John and Marcia Sfreddo of Craig, Colo., Chris and Dianna Yarrow of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Joe and Anna Yarrow of Sacramento; son Jon Yarrow of Reno; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Steve Mueller of Yankee Hill, Calif.; daughter Sandy Sfreddo; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
