Carson City's own Rockette, Caitie McCarthy (daughter of Ann and Joe, sister of Sundae), will be on the "Today" show tomorrow (Channel 4), sometime between 7-10 a.m. Radio City Music Hall is having its "Christmas in August" gig to plug its famous Christmas spectacular in December. Look for the gorgeous redhead who high-kicks with the best of them (DON'T "break a leg"). And just remember, kiddos, dreams DO come true in Carson City.

Carolyn had a great time with friends and her sister, Dorothy, in Mendocino last week. They stayed in Albion at the Fensalden Inn (www.inn@fensalden.com) and Bettilou's Inn (www.bettilouinn.com), right on the ocean with "breakfasts to die for," and spent time on the beach having cookouts of salmon, abalone and ribs. It's a tough life, but somebody's got to do it.

Maizie, in the meantime, went on the first train ride down the new rails on the V&T into American Flat. What a view it was, and that was only an inkling of what's in store once the railroad is completed.
She was also invited to tour the beautifully restored home of Jeff Teague and Paul Yandre. While they say it's a "work in progress," the original owners, Samuel and Herman Harris, would burst with pride at the results. Simply magnificent. She was also impressed with the courtesy shown her on the train by "Sergeant Major Staples," a courtly "Union" sergeant with the "1st Cavalry." In real life, he runs Sergeant Major's Silver Dollar Bar in Virginia City. Some delightful people up there...

No sooner did we have the "Club for Growth" exposed as a conservative PAC, now we have "Nevada Union Facts" dissing the Nevada "educational unions." Gee, how do we know it's not from Nevada? Because every time they have it on TV, the gal says "NeVAHda." You'd think those people would learn.

Our friend, Ken Fraser, strikes again: "A cop was out patrolling Lover's Lane when he saw a young man in a lighted car reading a computer magazine in the front seat, and a young woman knitting in the back. Obviously curious that nothing was going on, he tapped on the window and asked the young man, 'How old are you, sir?' 'Twenty-five, officer,' the young man replied. 'And your lady friend?' The young man looked at his watch and said, 'Oh, she'll be 18 in 11 minutes and 20 seconds.'"

The "Jazz and Beyond" festival is this weekend at the Brewery Arts Center beginning Friday with the annual beer tasting at 5 p.m. (call 883-1976 for times and information). There will be jazz all weekend long, culminating with a performance by Cami Thompson and the Reno Jazz Orchestra Sunday evening. It's a nonstop event with music for everyone, including the kids.

Viet Pho, the new Vietnamese restaurant, has opened in the old East Ocean location, 1214 N. Carson St., and we hear it has excellent food (told to us by someone who has traveled extensively in the East). They are open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. every day, with parking in the rear. Also, the Nevada State Fair will open tomorrow through Sunday in Reno (688-5767). Go ride the rides, eat the eats and see our local 4-Her's shine.

It's FOOTBALL time again, and that means Adele's will be hosting the annual Carson High School Hall of Fame dinner in their parking lot on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. It's always a good time to show your support of the team, and enjoy good food and good company. GO, SENATORS!

'I Get By With a Little Help From My Depends.'" And "Marvin Gaye ... 'I Heard It Through The Grapenuts.'" Who's old?

After munching down at the Sugarplum Bakery in Genoa this weekend, we went across the street to the Mormon Station and met with the "Mormon Battalion of 1847," a group of "re-enactors" from the Sacramento area recreating the battalion created by Brigham Young to fight in the Mexican War. Very entertaining and interesting.
