Carson City Parks and Recreation

The Program:

• Latch Key is a before- and after-school recreational enrichment program at the Carson City Community Center and all Carson City public elementary schools except Empire Elementary.

• The program is designed to provide elementary students with creative structure while their parents work. Activities such as homework assistance, arts and crafts, sports, games, and special events are available.

Before-School Latch Key:

This program at the Community Center Gym provides supervision from 6:30 a.m. until the Carson City school buses pick up the children for school. Breakfast is not provided and children will not arrive in time for the breakfast program at school. Please pack a ready-to-eat breakfast for your child if necessary. Children must arrive by 7:45 a.m. to ensure pick-up by the bus. Enrollment is limited to seats available on the school district buses. Cost $17 a week. Seeliger morning program is full.

After-School

Latch Key:

This program is designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grades and is held at all public elementary schools (except Empire) from 3-6 p.m. Parents must pick up their children by 6 p.m.; a $5 late fee will be assessed for every 15 minutes after 6:01 p.m. Enrollment is limited. Fritsch afternoon program is full.

Cost: $33 a week.

Kinder Latch Key:

This is especially designed for those children entering kindergarten in the Carson City area. Focus is given to reading readiness, small motor skills, and social skills, through a weekly theme-oriented curriculum. Hours are 7:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. for afternoon kindergartners and 11:30 a.m.-2:45 p.m. for morning kindergartners. Program staff transports the children to and from their school each day.

Before- and after-school programs are available to all kindergartners for an additional cost. Enrollment is limited. Both daytime Latch Key programs are full.

Cost: $40 a week.

• At the Community Center, 851 E. William St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday

• Parents have to pay for at least one week of program time and fill out an emergency registration form at this time. Cost is per week only and same-day starts aren't allowed.
