Two local banks are providing holiday cheer to local children and charities.

• Wells Fargo partners with the Mentor Center of Western Nevada

For the sixth year, Wells Fargo and its employees have celebrated the commitment of mentors to Carson City children.

Ruth Gordon, director of the Mentor Center of Western Nevada, a program of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, said Tuesday that food for its Christmas party today was provided by A Catered Affair. Wells Fargo donated enough money to provide 59 children with a gift.

"Santa comes and calls each child by name and gives them a present," said Gordon, who mentors a 19-year-old still involved in the program.

The bank donates more than $600 for footballs, dolls, books and crafts.

"We see the Irwin Charity CD promotion as an exceptional way to offer clients a sound return on their investment," said Bill Fergus, bank vice president. "This supports our clients' philanthropic interests."

The promotion runs to the end of this month.
