Man arrested after fleeing car, allegedly causing fire

A Carson City man remains in jail after allegedly causing injury after fleeing his car while running from Carson City Sheriff's deputies on Friday night.

Jose Carlos Escobar, 25, was arrested at 5:31 p.m. Friday at College Parkway and Goni Road on suspicion of felony eluding police, endangering people or property, misdemeanor driving on a suspended license, expired plates, obstructing a peace officer and a warrant for violation of alternative sentencing.

After deputies attempted a traffic stop, Escobar allegedly fled the vehicle and ran northbound on College Parkway. He jumped out of the moving vehicle, which went up onto the sidewalk and into the parking lot of Sonic, according to the arrest report.

The car came to a stop in some bushes and burst into flames, catching the bushes and an electrical stand on fire. A tow truck driver received minor injuries from the fire.
