Virgil William Fields, 76, a seven-year Carson City resident, died Jan. 14, 2006, in Salt Lake City.

Mr. Fields was born July 8, 1929, in Brownstown, Ind., to Lloyd W. and Bonnie Eller Fields.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Los Angeles.

He graduated from high school in Waterman, Ill.

He was an electrical contractor, and owned and operated Alcan Electric Corp. in Los Angeles for many years.

Mr. Fields served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a world champion drag boat racer, pilot and flight instructor.

Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Joann Fields of Carson City; daughter Laurie Fields of Santa Rosa, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Ron Monteleone of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sister Ruth Yerby of Kileen, Texas and seven grandchildren.

Cremation took place in Salt Lake City.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
