A funeral service for Katherine F. Newman, 90, a 10-year Carson City resident, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery in Santa Clara, Calif.
Mrs. Newman died Feb. 23, 2006, at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 23, 1915, in Angels Camp, Calif., to George Merdalo and Pauline Krazich.
Before moving to Carson City, she lived Santa Clara County, Calif.
She was valedictorian at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp and graduated from San Jose State University.
She was a civil service government employee.
She enjoyed bowling and loved animals.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers George and Nicholas.
Among her survivors are son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Nelia Herschbach of Carson City; granddaughters Debbie Jean Masters and Dana Venosta; and four great-grandchildren.
