A memorial service for Michael Haddad, 88, a 13-year Gardnerville resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakdale Memorial Park Mortuary, 1401 S. Grand Ave., Glendora, Calif.

Mr. Haddad died Dec. 23, 2005.

He was born May 29, 1917, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Joseph and Flora Hanna Haddad.

He married Doris Haddad in Winnipeg on April 23, 1940.

He served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers during World War II from 1939 to 1945.

He was a Japanese prisoner of war for six years after the fall of Hong Kong.

Mr. Haddad was a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association of Canada, Manitoba Branch.

He enjoyed dancing, gardening and bowling.

He was preceded in death by his wife and brothers George and Eddy.

Among his survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law Joyce and John Proffitt and Dianne and Brian Edmonds, all of Gardnerville and Lillian and Wayne Nailon of Hesperia, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Reginald and Muriel Haddad of Clandeboye, Manitoba; sisters Alice, Audrey, Lil and Agnes, all of Canada; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will take place at Oakdale Memorial Park.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley is in charge of arrangements.
