Wal-Mart shopping center has secured two more tenants

Two national chain stores will move into the new Wal-Mart shopping center in east Carson City, the developer said Monday.

Sally Beauty Co. and Great Clips will be in the new building near the Wal-Mart Supercenter off East College Parkway, said developer Al Bernhard. The national chain stores will be joining the Office Depot and Del Taco planned for that area.

"The biggest thing with having the national tenants is that everybody in the U.S. knows them," Bernhard said. "If they need a haircut or have beauty needs, they know they can go in and get the same kind of service in that store."

Sally Beauty Co. is the world's top seller of professional beauty supplies and styling appliances to professionals and consumers through direct sales and more than 2,400 beauty supply stores here and in Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, according to Hoovers.com. The company is headquartered in Denton, Texas.

Great Clips has opened more than 2,600 salons in 130 markets across the United States and Canada since its founding in Minneapolis in 1982, according to the company Web site. The company is franchise-based.

"Wal-Mart has always been a magnet to attract smaller retail businesses who want to increase foot traffic and sales in their establishment," said Ronni Hannaman, executive director of the Carson City Area Chamber of Commerce.

Bernhard said the two suites in 3250 Retail Drive will be ready for occupation by Aug. 15. He's expecting two more tenants to sign leases in the next 30 days.

"We'll have about 50 percent of it leased as long as everybody signs," he said.

Bernhard's second building, located in front of the Wal-Mart at 3325 Retail Drive, has no confirmed tenants.

A Del Taco is planned for the corner of Retail Court and East College Parkway on land owned by Don Langson. It will likely open in the first quarter of 2007. An Office Depot is planned for North Carson Crossing, which is on 23 acres east of the supercenter. Construction has not yet started.
