Homeowners who had damage to property during the floods and reside in Washoe, Storey, Lyon or Douglas counties or Carson City can receive up to $5,400 for flood damage to their homes.


The Homeowner's Disaster Assistance Program is being administered by the Nevada Department of Public Safety's Division of Emergency Management. For information, call 687-4240.

Library Board of Trustees to meet


The Carson City Library Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Among topics: Discussion about placing a measure on 2008 General Election ballot; report on current fiscal year budget; discussion and possible action on the next fiscal-year budget; and reports about staffing levels and other operations.




Senior gift shop candy to benefit Meals on Wheels


The Carson City Senior Gift Shop will be offering See's Candy, gift-wrapped and ready for giving, at the Carson City Senior Citizen's Center, 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City. Boxes can be purchased from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.


Chocolates and special Easter novelty items are available. All proceeds from candy sales go toward the Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program. Call 883-0703.




Indian taco sale to benefit powwow


The Spring Awakening Pow-Wow Committee will be holding an Indian taco sale from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at 2900 S. Curry St. in Carson City to support this weekend's powwow. There is free delivery.


There will also be a raffle for $1 a ticket or $5 for six tickets. There will be American Indian artwork, CD's purses, beadwork, and other items for raffle.

Carson ATA and Code Amber hold child safety day


Carson ATA - Karate for Kids, in conjunction with Code Amber and Amber Alert, will be holding a Child Safety Day and abduction safety seminar at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. April 1 at the Carson ATA black Belt Academy. Cost is $5 and each child gets a free Safety NET DVD, valued at $20, to teach them how to say no to strangers, and they will be fingerprinted by the Carson City Sheriff's Department. The first 100 children to register will receive a free Safety NET T-shirt sponsored by McDonald's.


Parents should register their children by Saturday. Only 200 spots are available. Call 883-5425.




Lake Tahoe


Ninety-Nines to award $1,000 flying scholarship


The Lake Tahoe Chapter Ninety-Nines is offering a $1,000 scholarship towards private pilot certification during the 2006-07 calendar year. This scholarship is limited to female student pilots within 60 miles of the Truckee Tahoe Airport. Additional criteria must be met.
