A funeral service for James W. Ambrose, 91, a Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe resident since 1963, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Walton's.

Mr. Ambrose died March 20, 2006, in Sparks. He was born Dec. 23, 1914, in Carthage, Mo., to Ollie Otto and Goldie Ambrose.

He built custom homes in Carson City and the surrounding area.

Mr. Ambrose enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling in RVs, woodworking and building things with his hands.

He was a past member of the Elks and Eagles, and a past member of the Home Builder's Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Oral Ambrose; brothers Blain, Olef, Clyde, Raymond, Ollen and Wayne; sisters Patricia Grossman, Juanita Ambrose and Viola Claybough; great-granddaughter Sara Weaver.

Among his survivors are his sons and daughters-in-law ,Kenneth R. and Charline Ambrose, Darrell J. and Claire Ambrose, all of Nampa, Idaho, and Michael J. and Jennie Ambrose of Sun Valley; daughter and son-in-law Janis and Peter Schomaker of Reno; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Karen Ambrose of Redland, Calif.; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place in Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery in Carson City.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
