Damonte Ranch continued to show why it has been one of the Northern 4A's top teams early in the season with a 4-0 win over Carson at home on Thursday.

Damonte's Amanda Webster threw a three-hit shutout, strking out nine and walking three.

"She did an outstanding job," Carson coach Scott Vickrey said. "She had the rise ball working.

"She did a good job of keeping our hitters off balance and she worked the outside and then she would work back inside."

Carson, though, still had its chances, but left seven runners on base. "We had our chances to get it done," Vickrey said. "We just didn't get the timely hit. We left runners on quite a bit."

Freshman pitcher Cassie Vondrak matched Webster for four innings, but Damonte struck for all four of its runs in the fifth. Vondrak pitched a complete game as she scattered 11 hits, striking out six and walking one.

Vondrak also doubled. Kaitlin Burroughs and Sarah Evans each added a hit to account for the Senators' three hits. Carson (5-4, 4-3 in the Sierra League) will host Damonte in a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
