Cardinals roll to win in tournament

The Carson Cardinals rolled to a 21-7 win over the Sparks Bombers on Tuesday at Reed to improve to 2-0 in the Reno Knights Memorial Day Weekend Tournament.

Matt Rutledge with 3-for-4 with four runs and an RBI, Brooks Greenlee went 2-for-2 with two runs and four RBI, Tony Fagan went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, David Leid had a hit, two runs and two RBI, Johnny Hazeltine hit a grand slam home run and Kyle Stone tripled.

Rob Valerius was the winning pitcher striking out seven and allowing seven runs, but only one earned, over four innings. David Eller pitched a scoreless fifth, striking out one, in the game that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Carson will continue play in the tournament today at 10 a.m. against Sacramento's International Baseball Academy and at 12:30 p.m. against the Knights. Both games are at Carson High.
