Micah Laack contributed to all five goals for the Carson High boys soccer team, which rolled to a 5-0 win at Hug on Wednesday.

Laack had three goals and two assists for Carson (4-0, 2-0 in the Sierra League). The Sierra League race looks to be wide open after Reno High beat South Tahoe 2-1 on Wednesday. "We've got some work ahead of us," Carson coach Jason Koop said.

Christian Volker opened the scoring for Carson off of an assist from Laack when he sent a rocket from the right side to the far post. "He can hit them," Koop said. "He finally ripped one."

Laack then scored from the top of the 18-yard box on assist from Mats Boehnke to give the Senators a 2-0 halftime lead.

Zach Weismann scored on a header off of an assist from Laack and then Weismann returned the favor, assisting on Laack's goal. Laack finished the scored when he scored on a header off of Enrique Mendoza's corner kick.

Carson outshot Hug 33-5. "We played very well," Koop said. "We moved the ball well as a unit.

"From top to bottom everbody played extremely well. I'm pleased with how the guys are playing."

Brandon Briggs returned from a one-game suspension after receiving a red card in the previous contest to post the shutout.

"It's nice having him back in there," Koop said. "It's a different dynamic when Brandon's in for us."

Koop praised the play of Boehnke, John Nuthall, Drew Heller, Andrew Hill, Matt Tillitt and Nic Marsh on defense, Weismann, Blake Moreland and Adam Updegrove at midfield and Martin Azzam and J.P. McFarren up front.

Carson will host Damonte Ranch on Saturday.

The boys will play at 5 p.m. and the girls will follow at 7.
