Josephine 'Joey' Pongasi

A celebration of life for Josephine "Joey" Pongasi, 63, a five-year resident of Carson City, will be 11 a.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.

Mrs. Pongasi died Sept. 12, 2006. She was born May 25, 1943, in Honolulu to Jesus Reyes and Annie Mikala Paauhau.

She married Gerald Pongasi Sr. on June 18, 1960.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in San Jose, Calif.

She graduated from Farrington High School in Honolulu and was a retired grocery clerk.

She was a member of the hula organization Kaulana Na Pua O Hula. She enjoyed blackjack tournaments, the Oakland Athletics and Raiders, and attending her grandchildren's sports events and school functions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Fredrick Reyes and sister Annette Watson.

She is survived by her husband of Carson City; son Gerald, son Gavin and his wife Charlene, and daughter Joreen Bates and her husband Alan, all of Carson City; sister Charleen Kermabon and her husband, Dennis, of Kula Maui, Hawaii; brothers Joseph Reyes and his wife Roberta, Jeremiah Reyes and his wife Gloria, and Jay Reyes, all of Kula, Maui, Albert Watson and Jonathan Reyes of Honolulu and five grandchildren.

Capitol City Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
