Lyon County Sheriff's candidate Allen Veil recently received a number of endorsements from area law enforcement groups and individuals.

Carson City Sheriff's Detective Bob Motamenpour said Tuesday the Carson City Deputies Protective Association decided to endorse Veil after he received an endorsement from the Lyon County Sheriff's Employees Association.

The Peace Officers Research Association of Nevada also endorsed Veil.

"We like Allen Veil. We think he's the most qualified for the office," said Ron Dreher, government affairs director of the association.

Veil, a 17-year veteran of the Lyon County Sheriff's Department and current captain, and Charlie Duke, former senior sergeant with the Los Angeles County Police Department, will face off in the November elections.

Veil has also received endorsements from outgoing Lyon County Sheriff Sid Smith and current Storey County Sheriff Jim Miller.

"I'm honored," Veil said Tuesday. "I'm very proud to list all of those people, and believe this demonstrates the effort that I've into my career and the respect that I've earned in the law enforcement community in Nevada."

A message left for Duke was not immediately returned Tuesday.
